On Thursday, March 29,(2012)  the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of New Hampshire will hold a panel discussion on Israel, with a keynote address by Consul General of Israel to New England Shai Bazak. The title of the discussion is “Is There Room Under the Tent for
Dissension.” The panelists include Leonard Fine, founding editor of Moment Magazine/ board
member of Americans for Peace Now; Alan Ronkin, deputy director of the Greater Boston Jewish Community Relations Council; and Jeff Jacoby, op-ed columnist for the Boston Globe.
The Talmud is loaded with debates between the schools of Hillel and Shamai. Although intense, the debates were conducted in a manner in which the debaters listened to each other argue the fine points. They did this because doing the right thing was important to them, but they needed to
listen to every angle and understand every facet.
Though their verbal battles were passionate and their outlooks different, they always had respect
for each other. Using this model, the JCRC encourages all to participate.
