"No regime can survive by raging a war on its own people," Davutoglu told the closing session of the meeting which saw the formation of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces.
Davutoglu thanked representatives of the groups for their contributions in the forming of the new leadership, saying, "today is a historic day and tomorrow will bring a new beginning. I would like to herald that the Syrian representatives had agreed on a new roadmap. They will garner their legitimacy from the Syrian people."
"Assad regime shall quit resisting the people because this people will determine the faith of Syria," he added.
Syrian opposition groups elected Sheikh Ahmad Moaz al-Khatib as president of the new coalition.
Opposition figures Riad Seif and Suheir Atassi were elected vice presidents and Mustafa Sabbagh was named as the coalition's secretary-general.
Al-Khatib is a prominent Islamic preacher in Syria and one of the important opposition figures against Bashar al-Assad.
He was detained several times in 2011 and 2012 by the Syrian regime forces for his anti-government activities.
Al Khatib frequently underlines
 social justice and
multi-party system
and expresses strong opposition to sectarian divisions among Syrian groups.
